From the Executive Director

February 2020

January just flew by, 2020 is hurtling along, and our favorite event, Evening Under the Stars, will be here before you know it!

This month, I'd like to take a moment to tell you a bit about each of our honorees, and why we selected them this year.

Nelda Linsk will receive the Jeannette Rockefeller Humanitarian Award. Aside from being a glamorous and beautiful person both inside and out, Nelda has been a steadfast supporter of many organizations in the Coachella Valley. She has been a long-time friend of AAP – Food Samaritans and was a very close friend of Jeannette Rockefeller. For many years Nelda has encouraged others to be philanthropic by giving not only to our organization, but to many more. It is her strong belief that our quality of life is affected by what we give back to our communities. Nelda is iconic, respected, and indeed deserves many accolades.

Donna MacMillan will also receive the Jeannette Rockefeller Humanitarian Award. Besides being one of the best-dressed women one could ever meet, Donna is inspiring and uplifting, a quiet and selfless donor who has impacted the lives of vast numbers of our less fortunate neighbors in the Coachella Valley. Donna’s sincerity and warmth of heart are genuine. I marvel at how Donna treats everyone as equals. More often than not, Donna’s wonderful and gracious good deeds go unknown. I felt it was time that we all embrace this amazing woman we are lucky enough to consider an amazing friend.

Geoff Kors and James Williamson will receive the Gloria Greene Inspiration Award. Leading by example, taking action, and motivating others are what Geoff and James do on a daily basis. They are judicious with their words, actions and behaviors. They care deeply about their leadership and communication process and style, and the influence they have. They take it seriously, as a special honor and responsibility not to be flaunted or misused. They understand their special role, and accept it with grace, compassion, and care. Always willing to listen and analize, ponder and give considerate thought to issues or concerns, these fine gentlemen are shining examples of people who strive to make a difference and live by their convictions.

In future newsletters we will dig a little deeper and highlight our honorees with more biographical information.

As always, thank you for all you do to support AAP – Food Samaritans.

Sincerely,
Mark Anton
