From the Executive Director

August 2025

I am very pleased to share some exciting news with you!

AAP – Food Samaritans is thrilled to announce the return of one of Palm Springs’ most talked-about events: Hollywood Dine and Dish IV: Tinsel Town Tales Too Hot to Print. The star-studded evening will take place at 6 PM on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at a private estate in Palm Springs.

Presented by legendary producer and acclaimed celebrity photographer Michael Childers, this exclusive benefit blends fine dining, laughter, and scandalous storytelling to raise critical funds for AAP’s food voucher program. Please see the next item, below, for all of the details.

This summer has been lean, with AAP facing the same monthly expenses for our food voucher program, but donations drop off when the heat is on. It's also the most challenging time for our clients, many of whom have to cope with higher utility bills, putting more of a squeeze on their already very low incomes. AAP's food voucher distribution is always essential for them, but even more so in the summer. I hope you'll consider a donation of any amount to help keep the program going. OR, perhaps consider purchasing tickets to this spectacular fundraiser.

Also, as someone getting a bit older myself, it occurs to me that some of us may be approaching the age where we need to take mandatory distributions from IRA and other retirement accounts. One clever way to soften that may be to make a donation to AAP to help offset any tax implications. Of course I'd recommend a chat with your tax preparer to be best informed about your options.

Sincerely,

Mark Anton
C.E.O./Executive Director
