From the Executive Director

January 2019

Happy New Year!

At AAP – Food Samaritans we like to start the New Year by looking back on all the support we received last year and thanking you all for continuing to help us accomplish our important mission. It is your ongoing support that enables us to continue offering vital nutritional support to those that need it the most.

As we ring in 2019 and make our resolutions for the year ahead, I hope you’ll consider a making continued commitment to AAP. There is still time to send a tax-deductible donation by year-end, and we have several opportunities to make it easy for you. Perhaps your Angel Program membership has expired, or you may want to purchase tickets to one of our fabulous upcoming events. We are so thankful for your loyalty to our organization, and knowing that your contributions are crucial to the success of our mission should make you feel warm and fuzzy inside. That’s how I feel when I think about your generous gifts to our Valley’s most needful residents.

In a few short weeks the 28th Annual Palm Springs Winter Classic Softball Tournament, which benefits AAP, will take place February 8-10, 2019.  Presented in cooperation with the City of Palm Springs and the Palm Springs Gay Softball League, participating teams are members of the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance (NAGAAA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting amateur athletics for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. All games are free to the public, and the tournament schedule will be posted at pswinterclassic.com later this month.

Coming up on February 24 is the 10th annual “Hollywood’s Biggest Night” that benefits AAP-Food Samaritans. Year after year, this continues to be a magical evening of dining, drinks, and the greatest awards show on earth. Starting with the walk down the orange carpet and the flashbulbs going off as guests arrive, the energy in the room is electric and the excitement builds as we wait with anticipation for each winner to be announced. Everyone has such a wonderful time, and every year is more entertaining than the last. I hope you will be able to join us on this special evening.

Don’t forget that The Music of ABBA by Arrival from Sweden will be our featured entertainment at the 2019 Evening Under the Stars gala on May 4. Tables and individual tickets are on sale already – and remember that the earlier you purchase your tickets, the better your placement at the event. Don’t delay – show your support today. Remember that a portion of your Evening Under the Stars ticket price is tax deductible.

Thank you for all that you do for AAP – Food Samaritans.  Your continuing support of our programs means so much to us.

Mark Anton, Executive Director
