From the Executive Director

March 2021

It's comforting to see that the vaccines are starting to get distributed more widely and supply ramping up as we head into Spring. I remain hopeful that everyone is staying safe and protecting each other by continuing to wear masks and maintain social distance. It'd be a shame to have endured the pain of 2020 and then succumb to the virus now, when we're so close to getting back to 'normal.'

It's only fitting that this month begins the celebration of Eisenhower Health's 50th Anniversary, especially in these challenging times for our friends and associates in Healthcare. We also salute Martin J. Massiello, whom has just been named president and chief executive officer of Eisenhower Health, effective March 1, 2021. Massiello, who formerly served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of the organization, will succeed G. Aubrey Serfling, who announced his retirement in 2020 following 20 years of leadership as president and CEO of Eisenhower Health. Serfling will serve on Eisenhower’s Board of Governors, focusing on community relations and fundraising.

I have some great news and a way you can help AAP – Food Samaritans! Postal PS has a promotion for the entire month of March that will benefit AAP. Just by choosing them for your mailing/shipping needs, you can be a part of it. Please call us at the office for more details.

As I mentioned in the previous newsletter, we are still planning to hold our annual Independence Day Celebration at the O'Donnell House on July 4. The City of Palm Springs hasn't yet decided if they will have a fireworks display, but either way, we know that it'll be a glorious evening on the garden terrace of the O'Donnell House, and that people will be more than ready for a little fun. When we are certain that we may move forward with this, tickets will go on sale. You'll hear it here, first!

Evening Under the Stars is our largest annual fundraising event, and given that we've had to skip the May 2020 event, I'm sorry to say that we can't in good conscience plan to hold the event this May either. Our current plan is to produce a smaller gala on Sunday, October 8 (Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples' Day weekend) with limited capacity and greater distancing between tables. Please stay tuned!

I don't like to ask for contributions every month, but we rely on community support to serve the most needful among us. Please help if you can. Join the Angel Program or make a one-time contribution. We can't do this without you!

Thank you for your continuing support.

Sincerely,
Mark Anton
